Smelly Feet No More

Foul smelling feet is one of those conditions that don’t affect the person with it but can be a huge inconvenience for anyone who happens to be within smelling distance. Smelly feet or bromodosis, yes it even has its own medical term is a foot condition caused by sweaty feet. Sweat in itself does not produce the foul odor. It is caused by bacteria breaking down the sweat.

Who are most likely to have smelly feet?

Aside from those who don’t practice good personal hygiene, some of us are more likely to suffer from foul smelling feet. Good candidates are those who are:

  • Excessive sweating- hyperhidrosis or people who sweat more than normal

  • People who “often” wear poor ventilated shoes

  • Those who don’t dry their feet thoroughly before wearing socks or shoes

  • People who wear the same shoes every day and don’t get this clean regularly

  • Wearing the same socks repeatedly

Preventing smelly feet

The causes of smelly feet are simple and preventing it could be done by keeping these tips in mind. If smelly feet is persistent consult a podiatrist.

Good personal hygiene is the best way to prevent not only smelly feet but also keeps our body healthy.

Change your shoes regularly and if possible don’t wear the same shoes for two days in a row. Shoes should be considered as something personal.

Foot powder or an antiperspirant keeps your feet dry and minimizes sweating.

Just like shoes, changing your socks every day is a must. If you’re a heavy sweater bring an extra pair of socks for a quick change. Special socks that have anti-bacterial properties are available.

Medicated insoles could be placed in your shoes. This also have a deodorizing effect to prevent smelly feet.

Wear sandals or well-ventilated shoes when possible. Give your feet and your friends a break by letting your feet breathe.
