Putting Your Best Foot Forward in 2021

At Texas Foot Specialists, we know that our patients are more than ready to put 2020 behind them and make a fresh start in the new year. New Year’s traditions around the globe reflect a similar intent:

Breaking China in Denmark—Tossing plates and dishes at your neighbor’s and friend’s front doors on New Year’s Eve is a symbol of leaving behind any ill will or bad feelings before the New Year starts. The larger the pile of broken dishes at your door, the more luck you’ll have in the year to come.

Drinking Ash in Russia—It’s a tradition on New Year’s Eve to write down your wishes for the coming year on a piece of paper and then light the paper with a candle. The wisher then drinks the ashes in a glass of champagne.

Ringing Out the Old in Japan—Buddhist temples ring their bells 107 times on New Year’s Eve and once at the stroke of midnight. This is said to cleanse the passing year of sins and dispel the 108 evil desires in every person.

Resolutions for Better Foot Care

No matter how you celebrate the New Year, we’d like to urge our patients to make some changes in 2021 that will benefit their podiatric health.

  • Exercise regularly—yes, this may already be on your list, but your feet will greatly benefit from a steady fitness regimen as well. First, it helps keep your weight down. Carrying excess pounds is linked to several common foot problems including plantar fasciitis and gout. In addition, physical activity improves circulation and flexibility.

  • Choose shoes wisely—one of the single biggest factors in foot health is your footwear. There’s no underestimating the importance of shoes that support your feet and fit properly. Conversely, much damage can be done if you wear shoes that are not well made or that are worn out.

  • Attend to foot problems promptly—one of the hardest things for our podiatrists, Dr. Bruce Miller and Dr. Gregory Mangum, to see is a patient with a foot condition that has become severe because it wasn’t treated earlier. If your feet hurt, contact our Sugar Land 281-242-4448, Pasadena 281-991-0600, or Houston 713-664-6677 offices to schedule an appointment at your earliest convenience.

Wishing all our patients a Healthy and Happy New Year!
